I freaking love this thing! I don't think I've run my stove since it arrived. easy to operate, easy to clean.
wish Id gotten it long ago now.
Now, at first, the smell of it cooking was terrible. I'd wash it after every use with a lot of soap and scalding hot water. What I learned is to use the smallest amount of dish soap and warm water. That honestly helps so much. The coating so far hasn't scratched (which I read some people have had issues with). Because it's nonstick, don't put it in a dish water and use a soft scrubber on a sponge not anything super rough. That will help too.
It cooks things amazingly. I can finally enjoy my favorite foods without all the grease, which is a major plus for me since I'm working on changing a lot of my diet. (Though I still get fast food once a week, I do put things like my fries through the air fryer and it gets off all that excess grease and makes them more cripsy).
I also recommend lining the bottom with parchment paper or getting liners to help keep the bottom of basket clean longer. It also makes for easier clean up.
The temperature does stay at 390, so you have to adjust it every time you turn it on. Just like the timer resets to join when you hit the arrows. That's not a problem to me, but to others it is. Just hit the arrows and adjust the time as needed. It does shut off once the timer goes off, so it does have a good safety feature to prevent it from staying on after it's done. And I do mean it shuts off completely.
It's not super loud, but you can definitely tell that it is on when you are making things. And it doesn't take up a whole lot of space (I only have around 4 feet of counter space, and it fits perfectly near my toaster, microwave and electric kettle with just enough room to set up platers and other things).
Con: no basket... so sad
my family!
It only held 4 chicken thighs and I thought it would hold more, but it was an ok size, I really did not want anything bigger on my kitchen counter, I have a small kitchen. But overall, I didnt think air fryer was worth it. It took a while to clean the grease off, and it seemed to be the same as cooking in the oven or on the stove. So for me, it was not worth it. I do not have kids in my house, so maybe someone with children will find it much more worthwhile. Ninja always makes a good product and I will buy them in the future, but his just was not for me
It's a perfect size to hold a Costco sized chicken breast, maybe two, and as you may know those are BIG. I can put an entire chicken sandwich, and fries, in it at the same time to cook. Just have to be a little creative to make a "wall" with aluminum foil to keep the fries separated. They literally use the same cooking temp and time so why not?
You don't *have* to pre-heat but things will cook much quicker and more predictably if you do.
Also I recommend that unless you know the *exact* time you should cook something, use the timer on the air fryer as the "oh shit" timer. Like the stopgap for if you forget food's cooking so you don't destroy everything.
Also this thing cooks faster than many frozen items will suggest you cook food for. Definitely always check your food about halfway through the cooking time, it might be a lot closer to done than you realize!
One warning though: ignore the guide stuck on the device! 20 minutes for chicken? you will either burn it or make it so dry that no one will enjoy eating it. From our months of experience, chicken and even steak cook around 10 minutes. What you need to do it set it for 390(or 375) F and 12 minutes(2 min for pre-heat) and after 5-6 flip it over and check. When it reaches 10 minutes either chicken or steak should be good. If not keep adding 1-2 minutes until they look good. But it is never 20 minutes or more.
Longest cooking time we experiences was potatoes, especially if they are cut in thick slices. That usually takes around 15 minutes .
Last but not least, it cooks everything like you would cook it on a grill, almost like a barbecue.
Made salmon filet, waffle fries & parmesan Brussel sprouts. Salm9n was tender & juicy;however, brussel sprouts turned out a bit chewy.
I had to manually pause the unit in order to shake the food 1/2 way through and then hit start again. Looking forward to making more. Seems to take up less room than my Instant Pot and it's lighter to carry
Have not had a lot of experience cooking vegetables yet.
The air fryer cooks beef, lamb, steaks, chicken in a third of the time the meat succulent and juicy, melts in your mouth.
Our gas oven takes much longer, saving money on gas bills, we have got rid of our deep fat fryer as well...win/win.
Highly recommend this product!!
I have written a review on Amazon about the hob hope my reviews are helpful to others who may be considering to purchase either product?
As a fatty I got to say I love my fried food. The air fryer tastes much better than baked and better for you than fried. I mean I can tell a difference now, don’t get me wrong. It is not going to taste like French fries deep fried in lard, but its close.
I decide I am going to make hot wings. Good idea, right? Well the first batch came out great. Even better than fried because they were a bit crispier. So, I decide I want to have a glass of wine while I cooked. This was my first mistake. God, I wished I had just went with whiskey. So, I insert the corkscrew into the cork and pop, it broke. Oh well, I thought let’s see what the internet has to offer on alternative methods of wine bottle opening.
The first option is to screw a screw into the cork then pry it out using the screw as a lever. Well, I can’t do that because the corkscrew is broken off into the cork. The second option said to use a lighter to heat but the air in the neck of the bottle and the cork will rise out. The third option was to place the bottle in a shoe to not break the glass. Then smack the shoe against a wall. I went with option two. Note this was my second mistake.
So, I break out the old lighter and start heating the glass up. Mind you I am also flipping my chicken wings in the air fryer while starting to heat up some hot sauce and other ingredients on the stove for my buffalo sauce. I decided I needed help so enlisted my 18-year child to hold the lighter up to the glass while I cooked. No good, this trick isn’t working.
I tell him he can stop we are going to go with option three, the shoe. Here comes the third mistake. I grabbed the bottle. Yep you read that right I bare handed the bottle that I had ben applying a direct flame to for over 5 minutes. To top it off I grabbed the neck. This resulted in the most pain I have ever felt in my entire life. This is the pain Atreyu felt when Artax sunk in the swamp of sadness. This was the pain worse than 10 kicks to the balls. This was real pain. Kidney stones have nothing on my hand at this moment. I was done. My hand felt like it had melted to the bottle.
Remember my son that I had help me? Well he is still there, and I must look like a man so I can’t cry, but boy did I want to cry. I haven’t wanted to cry this bad sense I watched “Ole yeller”. Despite the pain and fighting back tears. I managed to place the bottle in my shoe and set it on the table. I am still wanted to try that trick.
I then went into first aid mode, hand in the sink water running, ahhhh sweet relief. Unfortunately, that was not to last. The cool water only did so much. I decided burn creme would work. Nope don’t have any. Back to the water. Perhaps some ice. Ahhh flip the wings, run the water, check the sauce wait ….
The pot isn’t simmering. Why is the cutting board on the stove look funny? Yep mistake four here I come. I turned on the wrong burner and now my plastic cutting board has turned to liquid on my stove. Hand back in water again. I then retrieve my putty knife to scrape the stove clean. This causes wisps of plastic string to go from the stove to the sink. Hand goes back into the water.
At some point my son decides to wake the wife. Did I mention this was at about 1 am? She come into the kitchen and sees me. With one shoe one, a bottle of wine on the table inserted into my shoe. Note she mentions that is the shoe I walk into bathrooms in and its on her table. She then notices the burnt cutting board and an abundance of melted plastic in the sink. She then simply asks “hot wings hu?”
She is a god wife and wants me to go to the hospital for my possible 3rd degree burns on my hand but me, being a man, I decide I can tuff it out. She ends up getting me more ice and leaving my son in charge to go back to bed once she understands I am not budging on the whole doctor thing.
Anyway, in conclusion the hot wings were the best I have ever made. Although eating them one handed was a bit of a chore. I stayed up all night in pain and now I am out of ice. I never did open that bottle of wine. Also, that air fryer rocks.
